Hi HN, I built Vibes because I wanted a small sense of company while working on my own projects. Itβs a native Mac app that shows which friends are online, what theyβve chosen to put in their status, and a summary of their dayβs Git activity. You pick local repositories and connect with friends through invite links. There are orbit and list views, plus optional music and weather sharing. The idea is to glance over and see that a friend is around building something too. Git scanning happens locally. Source code, file contents, repository paths, branch names, and commit messages arenβtβ¦

CowBull is a word game where you have to find the hidden four-letter word. You make guesses and get back the count of exact letter matches (bulls) and partial matches (cows). Itβs a bit like Wordle, but you are not told the exact letters which match, only the count of matching letters. Scoring is based on the number of guesses and time used. There is a single player mode and a multi-player mode (no account required). The game source code is at https://github.com/claceio/cowbull . When I was younger, we used to play this game on paper at the back of the classroom during school and college inβ¦

Hello. Macs are starting to support more and more games. Now, you want to play games not only at home but also on the go. So I developed TouchNow so I can use a virtual game controller to remotely control my Mac when I'm out and about. You can even customize the controller layout for different games. It also supports internet connectivity, not just your home Wi-Fi. It's part of the Apple Ecosystem, so it delivers maximum Apple performance, offering many features that other Remote apps can't provide. It displays real app icons, shows real-time thumbnails of each window, and allows you to streaβ¦

Hi HN, Build this tool in a couple of hours with OpenAI Codex to scratch an itch. As part of my videos workflows I needed to cut the videos myself since the agent is pretty bad cutting and timing using only the transcription. But using a big app like Premiere or DaVinci Resolve was overkill so I used Astra to build an app tailored to that very task. It will be useful to others with the same problem. Tested only on Silicon Macs, so any feedback is welcome. As part of my workflow when the agent get the video it can open the app with the video or videos loaded in the timeline for me to cut and tβ¦

It's been on my "to do" for a long time to redo my portfolio page. Now with AI coming and stuff, I thought I might as well do it like this. I've spent the past several months building something I call PHNTM-One. And I am really curious what HN thinks of the idea and the product I've built. The basic concept is an AI appliance that lives on your desk, is your personal assistant and is totally local running on your own hardware with the option for a boosted mode to reach claude for more demanding tasks. The idea is to have your own local AI assistant that gets to know you and your tasks personally. The entire system runs on a Raspberry Pi5 8gb with Gemma 3 4B through Ollama, it has whisper.cpp for speech to text, piper for speech,β¦

Hi HN! byteface here. myjs was a recent accident I'd like to share. Several years ago I began writing DOM API's in Python as a curiosity: https://github.com/byteface/domonic/ Every now and then I do another pass rolling in more features from the MDN pages. I have lots of unit tests but found that porting real code and libraries was a useful test of the DOM compatibility. But I didn't want to pollute the core any further as had already ported d3 and jquery. So I created a new repo called domonic-libs: https://github.com/byteface/domonic-libs/ Anyways a couple of days ago while porting some jsβ¦
I created an interactive map of genetic similarity between populations, based on the Moriopoulos Collection 2025 ( https://genarchivist.net/showthread.php?tid=1449 ). Each data point is a 25-dimensional representation (Global25), and I use Euclidean distance. There is already https://genetic-distance.com/ , where you can look at the closest populations as a table. The vis should come with many caveats. One is that it is based on the data (and their quality) that is there, which does not cover all populations. Second, the localization of groups is done via LLMs (Claude), and one of the limitatβ¦

Plus, I have other work, so I'd like to leave my agents be and come back only when they need me, finish or fail. Ditch is a local desktop app for managing multiple Codex agents simultaneously. Hello HN! I created a converter that turns HyperCard 2.x stacks into standalone HTML so they can run in a modern browser. I built it to share my own stacks from the early '90s, which have been sitting on old floppy images for 30 years. It's MIT-licensed and I'd welcome contributions - especially stacks that break the converter, since I've only tested it against my own. If you have old HyperCard files lying around, I'd love to hear how they fare. Comments URL: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49577943 Points: 2 # Comments: 0

For the last few months I've been working on Yulin, which is an AWS simulator for Node.js. It simulates AWS services and state in memory in the same single process as your tests, and can also serve the simulation on localhost for local dev. It's in a similar conceptual space to LocalStack, but takes a very different approach by avoiding containers and keeping everything together in one process that you can step through in a debugger.
